The Emergency department is one of the most equipped and experienced departments of Dr P.K. Saha Hospital. Under direct supervision of the Director Dr SC Saha, the emergency department has capability of treating almost all medical emergencies. Accidents and trauma patients are treated by a dedicated surgical team , including general surgeon, neurosurgeon, orthopedic surgeon and anesthetist. There is provision for immediate decompressive craniectomy and cranial burr holes for trauma and CVA patients arriving at the emergency. Exploratory laparotomies can be performed in an emergency setting in case of trauma abdomen and patients with acute abdomen. Myocardial infarct patients (heart attack) patients receive all potential treatments including thrombolysis and primary percutaneous interventions. There is provision for temporary and permanent cardiac pacing in emergency setting for patients with heart block . COVID patients are separately triaged with RTPCR and CT scan results being available within 3 to 4 hours of arrival to the emergency. There is always sufficient oxygen available in the emergency with good oxygen resave and sufficient stock of COVID 19 medicines like remdesivir. There is provision of mechanical ventilation within the emergency with availability of critical care doctors .
